United Industries Group Inc. (UIG) offers glass lined steel tanks and silos for use in applications where bare metal or epoxy coating is not recommended.

These tanks are commonly called "glass fused-to-steel" and are coated inside and out with a glass enamel that binds to the metal and provides particular advantages over standard metal tanks.

The glass coating forms a hard, chemically inert layer that permanently protects the steel surface from rust, corrosion, undercutting, abrasion and stains.  Glass lined tanks are known for their low maintenance, natural resistance to contamination, greater service life and low modular construction costs.

Why Choose a UIG Glass Lined Tank?

UIG Glass Lined tanks use a proprietary, specially designed steel for enameling.  This steel will not cause "Fish Scaling" when glass is applied directly to the hot steel.  UIG steel does not use a toxic nickel medium to bond the glass to the steel.

Many glass lined tank manufacturers use a cheap steel that is not meant for enameling and apply toxic catalytic nickel oxide primer to reduce fish scaling.  This is a quick fix that often leads to corrosion up the road.

UIG Glass Lined tank panels are rounded and fully encapsulated in our glass fusion process.

Most manufacturers do not round their edges and, if left untreated, the rust will creep throughout the plates.  Sharp angled corners cannot be coated with glass enamel.  To solve this, many cover their edges with stainless steel.  Again, this does not solve the problem, especially because dissimilar metals create electrolysis which accelerates corrosion.
